E-marketing training for women-led SMEs in the eco-tourism sector
Vientiane, July 27, 2021. The Department of Tourism Development (DTD), Ministry of Information Culture and Tourism (MoICT), with support from the USAID Laos Business Environment Project, convened a training workshop on E-Marketing for women-led SMEs in the Eco-tourism sector at the Landmark Hotel. The workshop was co-chaired by Ms. Phonemaly Inthaphome, Director General of the Department of Tourism Development, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism (MoICT), Mr. Michael Ronning, USAID Country Representative. Workshop participants included representatives from MOICT, Department of Small Medium Enterprises and Promotion (DOSMEP), tourism related businesses, USAID/Laos and the USAID Laos Business Environment Project team.
“This training is one in a series of practical initiatives that USAID aims to support Lao PDR to improve SME digital skills. It will introduce techniques and tools to enhance their ability to reach potential customers domestically and internationally”, said Mr. Michael Ronning, USAID Country Representative.
The growth of digital technology has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the pressing need for business and government to adapt to this “new normal” environment. The pandemic has also had a massive impact on the local tourism industry. SMEs in this sector still lack the skills to be able to participate in the digital space, and they lack awareness of the available tools to enhance their ability to reach potential customers.
This training is therefore focused on providing 20 eco-tourism related SMEs a thorough and well-rounded understanding of e-marketing principles and practical techniques and strategies. Illustrative topics include: target customer identification, pricing, tour package development, and e-marketing communication plans.
The USAID Laos Business Environment Project assists the Government of Laos to enhance the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises while strengthening the business environment in Laos.
